The morning azkar (remembrance) below is worthy of practice as it invigorates us in the morning and seeks Allah’s facilitation in all affairs.

As for the timing, it is recommended to recite it when entering the Fajr time until sunrise. However, it can also be recited until the sun moves towards the west (approaching the Dhuhr time).

The presented dhikr is a revised version, filtered to exclude weaker (da’if) dhikr based on the judgments of scholars. In this morning dhikr, we also provide the benefits of each dhikr based on hadiths mentioning them, allowing for reflection on the meaning and realization of their benefits.

We have also included transliteration for each recitation, apart from Quranic verses, to assist those who find it challenging to read dhikr letter by letter.

Morning Azkar

(Between Fajr and midday when the sun starts moving towards the west)

“A’udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim.”

“I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil.”

Reciting Ayat Kursi

“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. He neither slumbers nor sleeps. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (Quran, Al-Baqarah: 255) (Recited once)

Benefits: Whoever recites it in the evening will be protected by Allah until the morning, and whoever recites it in the morning will be protected until the evening.[1]

Reading Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Naas

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say, ‘He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.'” (Quran, Al-Ikhlas: 1-4) (Recited 3 times)

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak. From the evil of that which He created and from the evil of darkness when it settles and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil of an envier when he envies.'” (Quran, Al-Falaq: 1-5) (Recited 3 times)

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, among the jinn and among the people.'” (Quran, An-Naas: 1-6) (Recited 3 times)

Benefit: Whoever utters each of these three times in the morning and evening, everything will be sufficient for them.[2]

Seeking Goodness on that Day and Seeking Refuge from its Evil

Ash-bahnaa wa ash-bahal mulku lillah walhamdulillah, laa ilaha illallah wahdahu laa syarika lah, lahul mulku walahul hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli syai-in qodir. Robbi as-aluka khoiro maa fii hadzal yaum wa khoiro maa ba’dahu, wa a’udzu bika min syarri maa fii hadzal yaum wa syarri maa ba’dahu. Robbi a’udzu bika minal kasali wa su-il kibar. Robbi a’udzu bika min ‘adzabin fin naari wa ‘adzabin fil qobri.

“We have entered the morning and the entire kingdom belongs to Allah, all praise is for Allah. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without any partners. To Allah belongs the kingdom, and all praise is due to Him. He is the Almighty over everything. O my Lord, I ask You for goodness on this day and goodness thereafter. I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil thereafter. O my Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the ugliness of old age. O my Lord, I seek refuge in You from the punishment in the hellfire and the punishment in the grave.” (Read once)

Benefit: Asking Allah for goodness on the present day and in the future, and seeking protection from the evils of the present day and the evils to come. It includes a request to be saved from laziness even when capable of doing good deeds and protection from the hardships of old age. It also contains a plea for salvation from the torment of the grave and the hellfire, which are the most severe punishments on the Day of Judgment.

Declaration of Surrendering Life and Death to Allah

Allahumma bika ash-bahnaa wa bika amsaynaa wa bika nahyaa wa bika namuutu wa ilaikan nusyuur

“O Allah, by Your mercy and assistance, we enter the morning, and by Your mercy and assistance, we enter the evening. By Your mercy and assistance, we live, and by Your will, we die. And to You is the resurrection (of all beings).” (Read once)
